The term restomod, broadly speaking, describes a vehicle that has been restored and modernized in the same breath, the original shape and character paired with mechanical and comfort updates that make it something you can live with every day. At Expedition Motor Company, that definition takes on a more specific form. What we build is a rare, open-top Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen, a convertible G-Wagen with unmistakable presence. We take the 1990s Wolf, restore it from the ground up, and produce a bespoke classic commissioned to each client's vision and built to the highest standard of capability, refinement, luxury, and authenticity. We have been doing exactly this, and nothing else, since 2017.
The foundation of every EMC build is the Mercedes-Benz 250GD Wolf, a military-spec G-Wagon produced for NATO armed forces from 1990 to 1993. It was originally purpose-built for a soldier's needs, stripped of everything unnecessary and designed to operate in the world's toughest conditions.

That heritage is not incidental to what we do, it is the reason we chose this platform over every other. The W461 Wolf carries a storied history and a configuration that we preserve to provide driver's with an analog driving experience that is full of character from a golden era of motoring. Features that make a G-Wagon a "Wolf":
These details tell you something about the truck's utilitarian character, and we preserve them deliberately. Strip those away and you have removed the identity of the vehicle, which is not something we are interested in doing.

Every decision we make is informed by the 175 250GD G-Wagens we have restored and delivered since 2017, with each build serving as an evolution of the last and continuously shaping what the EMC Wolf becomes. That depth of experience is not something that can be shortcut or replicated, and it shows in every truck that leaves our shop.
Our approach strikes a deliberate balance between keeping the Wolf aesthetically period-correct and delivering a driving experience worthy of modern roads. We have invested countless hours of research and development into curating something that is both analog in character and genuinely well-mannered in practice, and nowhere is that more evident than in our proprietary suspension system, one of the most consistently praised aspects of the truck, engineered to deliver a ride that is comfortable, commanding, and capable without compromising the Wolf's nature.

Each truck is disassembled entirely down to the frame, with every subsystem including the engine, chassis, suspension, brakes, electrical, and interior restored or reimagined under one roof by our team of 26 craftsmen, who bring a collective 500 years of restoration experience to the work. Body panels are taken to bare metal for correction and our Advanced Corrosion Armor Treatment before anything else moves forward. Over 2,500 man-hours go into each build before it is ready to leave our hands.

Upgraded powertrain selection is one of the most personal choices in the commission process. We offer 3 distinct configurations to reflect that. Our Mercedes OM605 and OM606 turbodiesel engines are the authentic offering, each bringing its own character while keeping the Wolf true to its origins and delivering the refinement and highway capability that the original platform never had. For clients who want the most powerful option available, our gasoline LS3 V8 produces 430 horsepower and was chosen for reasons that go beyond performance alone, including client familiarity, availability as a brand-new crate engine, broad parts accessibility, proven reliability across countless use cases and generations, and a service network that reaches anywhere in the country. Every integration component across all three configurations, from cooling architecture to driveline spec, has been developed entirely in-house and refined across six generations of builds.

Standard specification across every EMC build includes wireless Apple CarPlay, air conditioning, heated seats, a backup camera, a premium Harman sound system, and phone chargers front+rear, all integrated discreetly so the cabin still reads as the purposeful, period-correct environment it was designed to be. Our weatherproof interior material is available in over 35 colors, chosen specifically for clients who use their trucks in real conditions, like going for a drive after a dip in the ocean. Commissioned builds can go further, with genuine leather, bespoke colorways, and custom second-row configurations available for clients working to a specific idea.

Every truck ships with a two-year bumper-to-bumper warranty and complimentary enclosed transport to your door.
We do one thing, and we have done it for nearly a decade across more than 175 completed builds on a single platform that we understand better than anyone else working on it today. That passion and focus is what EMC was founded on. You can view our past client commissions on our builds page and design your own custom G-Wagon on our configurator.
