The EMC Wolf provides one of the most unique driving experiences available today. A large part of what defines that experience is the engine. We offer three upgraded powertrain options, each chosen and built in-house to make our custom G Wagon as compelling to drive today as it is distinctive to own.
For clients who want a Mercedes-Benz engine under the hood, we offer two turbodiesel options, the OM605a and the OM606a. Both are derivatives of the Mercedes-Benz 250GD platform's original diesel lineage, taken significantly further.
These are among the most respected diesel engines ever produced, known for their durability and capacity for reliable power. Where the Wolf's original OM602 was built for a different era, the turbodiesels feel at home in modern driving conditions, composed at highway speeds, strong through the rev range, and effortless to live with day to day. Our tuning refines that further, optimizing each engine for smooth, clean power delivery without the smoke or smell associated with older diesel setups. Both cruise comfortably above 70 mph.

The OM605a produces 225 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. The OM606a steps that up to 275 hp and 350 lb-ft, with your choice of a Mercedes 717 5-speed manual or a ZF 8HP 8-speed automatic, fitted to one of the most iconic 1990s G Wagons ever produced.

Our Wolf equipped with the 6.2L LS3 V8, what we refer to as the 620GE, is our most powerful engine option at 430 hp, mated to a GM 6L80 6-speed automatic.
The LS3 was our choice for a V8 for a number of reasons. It is a brand-new crate engine with decades of proven reliability across countless implementations, widely familiar to technicians, and straightforward to service anywhere in the world. That track record, combined with its inherent simplicity, is what sets it apart from newer GM alternatives. The LT1, for example, introduced Active Fuel Management and direct injection, both of which carry documented reliability concerns, including lifter and camshaft failures. The LS3 has none of that.

Clients consistently describe the 620GE as making the vintage G Class Gelandewagen feel like a new car, with crisp throttle, immediate power, and a familiar driving experience. Combined with our proprietary double-cardan driveline, propreitary cooling system, and AMG brakes, it is a complete package.
Regardless of which engine you choose, the Wolf is as much a vehicle built to be driven as it is a piece of art or a worthy addition to any collection. The turbodiesels preserve the analog diesel character the Wolf is known for, with significantly more power behind it. The LS3 offers something different, effortless and modern in a way that makes the Wolf feel unlike anything else on the road. Both reflect nearly a decade of work on a single platform.
Every engine EMC offers exists for the same reason: to make the vintage convertible Mercedes enjoyable to drive. Whether that means a tuned Mercedes turbodiesel or an 6.2L V8 under the hood, the goal is the same, a vehicle you get into and go.
