The Mercedes G500 Cabriolet is one of the most iconic G-Wagons ever produced, combining the pedigree of a Mercedes Geländewagen with an open-air driving experience. Produced in limited run from 1999 to 2013, this vehicle instantly garnered attention and has since become a collectors item.

The Charm of a Cabrio G-Wagon

Originally crafted for military use, the G-Class is celebrated for its unmatched durability and off-road prowess. In the early 1990s, Mercedes was rebranding and modernizing the G-Wagon to be a luxury vehicle, distancing itself from its purpose-built roots. The G500 Cabriolet was the ultimate modernized convertible G-Wagon, featuring leather upholstery, heated seats, premium sound systems, a V8 engine, and a power-operated convertible top. It took all of the aspects that drivers loved about the modernized G-Wagon: contemporary design, exclusivity, practicality - and paired it with the joys of a convertible.

G500 Cabriolet Specs

The Mercedes G500 Cabriolet had impressive technical specs for the time, many of which evolved during the production run. Throughout the years, it was powered by a robust V8 engine, with horsepower ranging from approximately 292-388hp and torque ranging from 338-398lb-ft. The truck was initially equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission but was later replaced with a more efficient 7-speed. It also featured full-time all-wheel drive, high and low transfer case settings, and 3 locking differentials.

Aesthetically, the G500 Cabriolet sported a two-door convertible body style with variations in trim and accessories, riding on 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, it offered seating for five, with interior appointments ranging from standard wood trims to optional carbon fiber in the later models. Advances in technology allowed for navigation systems, touchscreen displays, and Bluetooth connectivity in later years. Safety features were also progressively enhanced, including the standardization of front airbags and the addition of side airbags, assisted braking systems, and the introduction of stability control.
