NEW Sahara Colored Wolf Is a Return to G-Wagen Roots

The all-new Sahara Wolf is more than just a sand-colored 250GD. It's a return to the roots and a nod to the legacy of the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. Explore this incredible build from Expedition Motor Company and learn how it connects to the vehicle's storied history.

Back to the Sahara

The original 1970s Geländewagen was designed for military use and was only later developed to be a truck for the consumer market. The vision? A user-friendly yet rugged vehicle tough enough to tackle any terrain. While the car was being engineered, Mercedes-Benz tested many prototype G-Wagens in some of the world’s most unforgiving terrain in the Sahara Desert and Arctic Circle.

These early prototypes were extensively tested in the Sahara Desert, forever linking this legendary off-road utility vehicle with the sand-covered landscape and its imposing dunes. To honor those inaugural G-Wagen prototypes, Expedition Motor Company is proud to reveal the brand-new Sahara Wolf. Asking yourself what a “Wolf” is? The Wolf moniker refers to an ex-military G-Wagen that has a convertible roof, 2 doors, and a fold-down windshield. That's what makes a Wolf.

The Emergence of a Modern Classic

EMC's reimagined 1993 250GD Sahara Wolf retains the stout OM602 2.5L 5-cylinder diesel engine paired with a completely rebuilt 711.117 5-speed manual transmission. It also has a proprietary suspension system for a smooth, comfortable ride on any type of terrain, utilizing Bilstein struts with Eibach springs.

We've combined the power and durability of the original convertible G-Wagen with the elegance and innovation of a modern luxury SUV. Our team's painstaking attention to detail means you'll be driving your 250GD Wolf for decades to come. EMC strives to celebrate the attributes and appearance of this unique utility vehicle while giving you a comfortable drive under a variety of conditions.

Reviewing the Specs

Apart from the top-to-bottom restoration of the vehicle, we've upgraded the exterior with a custom-built EMC Bullbar, 3-inch LED Pod Lights for enhanced visibility off-road, a Warn Winch, and an EMC Snorkel Kit. For the interior, similar to all EMC Wolf builds, this restoration uses high-quality weatherproof upholstery, AAA European Oak accents, and hand-crafted interior components.

Inside the convertible G-Wagen, you'll find a sophisticated Elephant Gray interior and an array of comfort and tech features. Every Wolf boasts heated seats in the front and rear, air conditioning, soundproofing, wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity and a premium Harman Kardon Infinity sound system. We also add conveniences like cup-holders, soft-touch door panels and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

The Comprehensive Restoration Process

Each EMC restoration goes through a 100-point process to ensure you get consistent and reliable performance from every part of your Wolf. The final product represents about 2,300 hours of restoration work. With the world's largest collection of G-Wagens, we're the world's foremost experts in restoring these one-of-a-kind utility vehicles. Each project takes about 16 weeks from order to delivery.

EMC even retains first right of refusal contracts with several European militaries for their decommissioned Mercedes-Benz Wolf vehicles. Access to a wide selection of 250GDs allows us to optimize the quality of your restoration while preserving the history and authenticity of this storied military truck.
