Build Spotlight: 1990 250GD Wolf in Zermatt White
This commission arrived with a clear brief: a period-correct Wolf, a Mercedes engine under the hood, and a driving experience that keeps the driver involved. The truck that answered it is a 1990 short-wheelbase 250GD Wolf in Zermatt White over Choco Brown, running the OM606 turbodiesel through a five-speed manual, and every choice in the build traces back to that opening request.
Exterior
Zermatt White is one of our in-house shades, and the client chose it for the same reason the whole truck exists: it reads correct for a 1990s G-Wagon, as though the body could have left the factory wearing it. The choice carried a demand along with it. Every panel was taken to bare steel, hand-corrected to OEM specification, and refinished before the paint went on, the same sequence every EMC body follows.
Drivetrain
The client's request for involvement decided the drivetrain. The OM606 turbodiesel is the strongest of the Mercedes turbodiesels we offer, rebuilt in-house and tuned for smooth, usable power, and in this build it drives through the Mercedes 717 five-speed manual. A manual gearbox keeps the driver in the middle of every mile, proving an interactive and analog driving experience. Our engineering sits underneath that experience rather than on top of it. The cooling, the driveline, and the tune were all developed in-house allowing the truck to drive as if it could have come from the factory this way.
Interior
Choco Brown was the client's choice against the white, applied in our weatherproof material so the cabin tolerates open-top use as a matter of course. The layout keeps the simple, ergonomic design of the original truck, and the modern equipment, air conditioning, heated seats, wireless Apple CarPlay, and premium Harman sound, is integrated into that layout rather than added onto it.
The Commission
This Wolf was a commission, and its specification took shape the way every one does, through a sequence of client decisions made with our guidance. The process begins with a conversation about how the owner intends to drive. This client wanted involvement, and each choice followed from that answer: the OM606 turbodiesel, the five-speed manual, and a Zermatt White over Choco Brown palette that keeps the truck true to its period.
