The Rare Gem of G-Wagons: The 1990 Mercedes-Benz 250GD Wolf

The G-Wagon has long been synonymous with luxury and rugged capability, becoming a cultural icon in the automotive world. While its contemporary models enjoy widespread popularity, there exists a lesser-known variant that stands out for its unique historical pedigree and rarity: the 1990 Mercedes-Benz 250GD Wolf.

Originally designed for military use, the 1990 250GD Wolf boasts the W461 chassis designation, identifying it as a vehicle tailored for emergency services and military operations. This specific model was not designed for or offered to the civilian market, making it a coveted piece for collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate its rarity and robustness.

Affectionately nicknamed “Wolf” by the German armed forces in the 90s, this G-Wagon was valued for its reliability and utilitarian design. The 1990 250GD Wolf features a short wheelbase, a 2-door convertible body style, and a foldable windshield. It is powered by the OM602 diesel engine, renowned as one of Mercedes’ most durable and reliable engines. These characteristics not only made it a dependable military asset but also make it highly desirable in today’s collector’s market.

Unfortunately, a majority of the 1990 250GD Wolfs are in undriveable condition, bearing the marks of strenuous military service. This is where Expedition Motor Company steps in. Specializing in the restoration of the 250GD Wolf, we perform top-to-bottom restorations on these ex-military G-Wagons, giving them new life.

The restoration process at Expedition Motor Company begins with the total disassembly of the vehicle, down to the very last bolt. From there, our team of 25 craftsmen embarks on a journey that will take over 2,300 man-hours to complete.

All 250GD Wolfs that leave our shop are authentically restored and equipped with minimally-invasive upgrades that modernize the driving experience. These upgrades include an in-house developed suspension system, a completely redesigned interior, upgraded brakes, air conditioning, wireless Apple CarPlay, heated seats, and a Harman Kardon Infinity sound system, to name a few.

For those who value the heritage of the G-Wagon and seek something truly unique, the 1990 250GD Wolf offers an unrivaled opportunity to own and drive a rare piece of automotive history.
