The Purchase Process: EMC 250GD Wolf

Our Mercedes-Benz G-Class is more than just a vehicle; it's a platform for materializing a creative vision for the classic convertible Geländewagen. The 250GD Wolf G-Wagen is at the highest level of build quality and reliability. We spend over 2,300 man-hours restoring these incredible vintage 4x4s, providing our clients with a truck they can be proud of.

Originally designed for military use, the G-Class has found a new market among civilian drivers and off-road enthusiasts. Expedition Motor Company specializes in restoring one of the early G-Wagen models, paying homage to a storied legacy. When commissioning a build with EMC, clients have full control over their custom builds. From the transmission to the stitching on the door handles, everything can be catered to one’s tastes.

Our Unique Build Process

Selection and Restoration

Every G-Class we restore undergoes an extensive restoration process. The journey starts with sourcing vintage G-Wagens from various Nato Militaries from around the globe. All EMC 250GD Wolfs are restored 100% in-house by our team of 25 craftsmen and take 16 weeks to build. We produce about 30 builds per year and have delivered 160 trucks to date.

Payment and Milestones

We ensure our payment process is transparent and as simple as possible. Once you have decided to commission a build with EMC, we require a 30% deposit to secure your build slot, 30% at the painting stage, and 40% at the time of delivery. Our founder, Alex Levin will personally provide you with updates and photos throughout the process so you can see how your G-Wagen is developing in real time.

Vision and Curation

At Expedition Motor Company, we're passionate about every truck we work on, but the final build belongs entirely to you. Crafting a G-Class with us is a deeply personalized experience that focuses on your unique vision and our collaborative efforts to bring it to life. All of the G-Wagens we resurrect have lived tough lives and have a story to tell; many have seen a lot of military action. This history is part of the reason these vehicles are so special and rare.

Unmaking and Rehabilitation

Once a chassis is deemed qualified for restoration, we begin the process by deconstructing the truck and taking components such as the frame and body down to bare metal. By the time this phase is complete, the vehicle’s entire body and frame will be restored back to OEM specifications.

Paint and Cabin

Once the body has been prepped, the truck is ready for anti-corrosive treatments and paint. These are applied by our paint specialists in our climate-controlled studio. Whether you choose a color from our curated collection or collaborate with our paint-to-sample department, our team expertly balances traditional techniques with modern precision. During this process our seamstresses work on handcrafting interior elements including seats, door cards, and dashboards.

The Pulse

While our craftsmen are busy with the truck's body, our mechanical and electrical experts prepare the chassis for installation. The truck's entire drivetrain, including the OM602 diesel engine, transmission, and transfer case are completely rebuilt. We take great pride in ensuring all components of the truck are restored.

In addition to reviving some of the Wolf’s original parts, we also add upgrades to improve the G-Wagen’s overall ride quality. The 250GD gets brand new and upgraded trailing arms, struts, springs, bushings, and braking systems.

Putting it Together

Now comes the best part: the final assembly of your customized Wolf. No matter how many G-Wagens we restore and customize, this moment never gets old. Your creative vision has come to life.

Quality Check

No 250GD Wolf leaves our shop until it's passed our QA/QC tests. We drive every newly-restored Wolf about 500 miles to ensure specific engine parts, such as camshafts and piston rings, are seated properly. We also like to ensure that the vehicle’s overall performance is up to our standards.
